WORD FLESH

I am held together by your thinking me
Body and bones, blood
A sustained note
Sung by you.

When you were far off
I am abject, bent
With misunderstanding of good.
Even then you know me
inside out
Spinning my hair with breath,
Lending faces of kindness
Comforts legible
In my grief at your absence

A pair of coral earrings
One lost in the Roanoke bar
Carlos Aire
Hovering like a mother
Feeding me, and sleep
Never minding my London bridges
Falling down, his arms
Your arms around me.
The white car, I crashed it
And the blue car rolled away in the night
The roommates pushing and pitching
Kicking me out
The bed on the cold floor
A friend among the perilous,
Like a light needle, piercing the dark cloth

I am held together by your thinking me
Body and bones, blood
A sustained note
Sung by you.

You
I breathe; your voice rings
Singing the palms of my hands
Singing my eyes,
Singing, no end.
My dna is your melody.
