thru hiker #2

"Top of the morning to you!"
"I'm sorry. Vhat?"
Some greetings don't translate
even on the Appalachian trail.

Rubber

Clump on the lip of the bin
static fried it
blew it off
kept it floating
close but
since it can no longer be on the scalp,
bin end
going to be a show now
of what this is that
happened to us
my clump is probably on the floor
so affirmation is welcome
gladdened to see that we all share in the loss.

Preservation

If by accident
your eyes
were hollowed out
with a melon scoop
I'd preserve them
in a mason jar,
pickled like radishes,
cucumbers or peaches,
over time, the juice
of it all
bubbling,
its fizz
rising to the top,
like a seltzer bottle
a fish tank
or a shaken snow globe,
keep you on my sill.
